Going back to SDMCET, Dharwad.. :)

My Future SDMCET, Dharwad
Blogging after 2 years, where the hell did I go? What was wrong? Bangalore crammed life may be the reason :( Anyways…. Have some great news.

Feel very pleased to tell you that I have been admitted at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill(www.cs.unc.edu). I have also got my Visa and will be heading there in 1st week of August as my classes start from August 16th.

I have put in my papers and June 29th, I hope would be my last working day at Infy Labs

I had got a previous admit for spring 2012 from University of Southern California that was supposed to start from this January but I had differed it to fall 2012. But to get an admit at UNCCH was a thing I never expected given that its one of the most ambitious universities in US and is always a dream admit. And thus I chose UNCCH over USC. USC however is ranked close to UNCCH and sometimes better. If I weren’t seasoned given the countless reviews I read on internet and advices which I got, I would have probably gone with USC(better rank) and who doesn’t wanna live in Cali and more so just 10miles from HOLLYWOOD? :) But its not always the rank atleast when you wanna do your Masters, you gotta think way beyond ranks which just spoon feed you info, which may not be always be customized to your tastes and pertinent to you.

Its more so like after our CET, thinking which college to join. The advice which we may have got is “rank 1 college try madalleppa illdiddre job sikangilla :)” (Go to the 1st rank college else you wont get a Job) But was that true? I will never regret and by far consider joining SDM to be the best decision I took. In SDM, I feel we got the freedom and more so the license to be BINDAAS…. “SDM daga 8 semesters complete mad lepa without backlogs and 60 – 65 aggregate and Job siktava :)”(Finish your 8 sems without backlogs with 60 – 65 aggregate in SDM and you will land up a Job). I personally like to work in peace and without pressure with freedom, so like in top colleges in Bangalore I never felt the pressure that I need to complete some ‘n’ number of certification and ‘n’ number of bootcamps that happen in Bangalore everyday because my peers are attending. Being in SDM “Competition pressure irlilla sukhamaya balu :)”(No competition pressure, happy living). I do not mean we didn’t have geniuses in our campus but we didn’t work like students in Bangalore, their approach was different :). So choosing a college is something even now is about you and more than the facts and figures.

I chose UNCCH because I felt I am a guy who likes research and may never would like to work again in a company (dreams :) ). UNCCH is highly research oriented and bang on!! It makes sense to be there for me. Plus Cali is the Silicon Valley so “Ondu Bengaluru bittu inondu Bengalurige :) ” (Leave One Bangalore and head for another) type of transition :). Being at SDM and more so being in Dharwad gave us the liberty I feel to set our own pace, even the climate complimented to it. Being from a coastal area I remember the first semester, I remember how I slept in day in and day out in the cool climate and how I trudged myself to classes :) But more so I was at peace and so is Chapel Hill similar I feel to Dharwad :) So I am heading back to Dharwad!!!

So its been quite any experience of more than a year starting from giving the GRE, TOEFL, to shortlisting colleges to write SOPs and LORs to applying to getting REJECTS :( to ADMITS :) to slog for getting the VISA documentation to VISA :( to Getting the VISA :) to now booking cheap tickets which are scare:(

I feel all of you have to think atleast seriously once about higher studies and doing something more than you already have. Life is not just for living and life comes only once.(Philosophy I know doesnt suite me :) )

Let me know if you thinking about higher studies especially MS in US and need any assistance form a Veteran Guru like me :) Hehe.. Just kidding I am the same old plain Sridutt and will always be so.No Veteran and not a GURU :)

I hope I could be in contact with you now more often to blogs and write my experiences now that I am headed back to Dharwad!! :)

PS - Bouquets(for going to UNCCH ;)) and Kolaveri ( for being an SDM advocate) are both welcome. :)However, No offence meant to anyone :)
